Nowadays, it’s very common for teenage girls to start developing feelings of insecurity when it comes to their bodies. Most of the models that we see in magazines, on billboards and on TV are all teenagers and they are all extremely thin. Plus, their photos are also usually airbrushed. Add to that the fact that each of these models has a team of people dedicated to making them look good for a shoot.
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Ideals of Beauty
Due to the influence of the media, teenage girls are usually comparing themselves with unattainable and unhealthy ideals which make them feel like they are not good enough. But it is possible to give teenage girls higher self-esteem by encouraging them to do strength training which will help them to develop a strong and beautiful body, not just a thin one.
Cardio, Yoga and Strength Training
Of course, any form of exercise is good for you, including cardio, yoga and strength training. But strength straining is particularly good because it lays the foundation for a healthy body and strong muscles in the long run. With strength training, it is possible to develop the muscles all over your body, from your shoulders and arms to your abs and glutes.
Why Anyone Can and Should Do Strength Training
The moves used in strength training are not necessarily difficult ones. A bicep curl or a chest press is pretty easy to do. All you have to do is pick up a weight and curl your arms towards your shoulders or lie on the floor and straighten your arms towards the ceiling.
Maintaining Your Form and Going Slow
Although these moves are simple, it’s important to make sure that you do them correctly i.e., with the correct form, or you can end up pulling your muscles or injuring yourself in some other way. Additionally, it’s also good to go slow. Instead of picking up heavy weights right away and experiencing soreness for days, start with lighter weights and increase them slowly, as you get stronger.
The idea is to think of strength training as a practice you can and should keep up for the rest of your life in order to have a strong and healthy body which also happens to be beautiful.
